Halotherapy

The History of Halotherapy

In 1843, Polish physician Dr Feliks Boczkowski had a theory about the effects of inhalation of salt due to the salt miners rarely suffering from respiratory problems or colds compared with the general population.

As the miners worked, micro-sized particles of salt were thrust into the air and inhaled. This combined with ideal conditions of constant air pressure, circulation, humidity, temperature, and lack of airborne pollutants affected the environment in a positive way.  Once this discovery had been made, they tested the theory on coal miners who suffered badly from respiratory conditions.  When the results were found to be positive in 1958 they opened a Salt mine in Poland as the first “Speleotherapy” Health Resort (“Speleon” is Greek for “Cave”).  Visitors came from all around the world to stay in the resort to benefit from the therapy.  They still use caves today in several locations around the world where the caves are 200 – 300 metres underground to provide the conditions required to benefit from this amazing and natural therapy.

Over a century later, work began on technology to recreate the same conditions and benefits of the salt mines; with engineers input the Halogenerator was created and Salt Therapy Rooms were introduced, some of them being located inside hospitals as they became an accepted treatment for many respiratory and skin issues.

What does a treatment entail?

In a Halotherapy session you will sit back in a comfortable chair and relax while the Halogenerator grinds and disperses the salt into the air.  We suggest that no technology is taken inside the Salt room due to the micro salt particles which can have an adverse effect on technology, but feel free to bring a book or something to occupy yourself or just maybe take some time out for a sneaky nap!

How many people are in a session at one time?

The therapy room can accommodate 2 adults and potentially a child (depending on the age) at one time.  When more than one person is in the room at one time you will have chosen to have the second person with you, there will never be someone else placed with you.

Are there any after effects of the treatment?

In some cases where clients are suffering with a lot of mucus, coughing can follow a treatment, this is the body's natural defence system trying to rid itself of the toxins and mucus from the body.

Can anyone have Halotherapy?

There are very few restrictions as to who can have this treatment but this would be discussed with a client prior to any treatments and some conditions may require signing off from a Doctor before treatment can commence.
